Touchup Work Basics:
Touchup work requires a different set of skills from complete refinishing. In Touchup work, the existing finish is not removed. Many different repair techniques can be used to improve many different kinds of damage. As with our other services, we must advise you an a case by case basis about what we can do.
Our touchup services are of particular benefit in repairing the kind of damage often suffered after handling by professional movers, or from having furniture kept in long term storage. It is also a service to consider if you own furniture in a commercial setting that suffers extra wear and tear on a daily basis.
Touchup services are not a substitute for refinishing when items are overall severely worn or damaged, but it is the perfect solution for finishes in fair condition, that have just suffered isolated wear and tear damage. In many cases, even severe gouges and scratches can be repaired to nearly invisible. Touchup services will save significantly over the cost of complete refinishing. In addition, since this service can be performed at your location, the expense and inconvenience of moving the items out is eliminated. Best of all, there is no waiting for days or weeks to have your item returned.
Structural Repairs
As furniture ages, many of the glue joints become dry and loose. In order to maintain the structural integrity of each piece they must often have re-gluing done to tighten joints. This is especially true of items such as dining room chairs and desk chairs.
The Village Woodsmith re-glues at least 250-300 chairs per year. We are proud to say we have never had one returned.
We take the chairs apart, replace any broken dowels and then re-glue under clamps for at least 24 hours to insure a strong bond of the joint.
These chairs are now better than when they left the factory and are ready to give you many years of continued service.
Stripping Furniture for Refinishing
When it is necessary to strip furniture we will make ever effort to sand off the old finish. If this is not possible because of trim or design we then have it stripped using the "Overflow Method." We never submerse a piece of furniture into a vat of stripper. This is disastrous to the furniture.
We use the overflow method because it is the most effective way to strip furniture with out having to dip it. There is a continuous flow of stripper being re-circulated over the piece while a soft brush head is scrubbing away the old finish. This is the only chemical method we use.
Office and Conference Room Furniture
Your office furniture and fixtures say a lot about how you run your business. Water rings, scuffs, gouges, faded finishes, and worn, creaky joints may not have anything to do with how your company performs, but may have everything to do with how it is perceived. When your desks and chairs, tables and woodwork begin to show the inevitable signs of daily wear and high-traffic use, your carefully-cultivated image may suffer.
Waiting Room Furniture
The Village Woodsmith can help ensure that your office environment projects the professional image and standards of your company.
Why Us?
Many shops do not offer touchup service. Good touchup work requires a great deal of experience and skill, every bit as much as what is necessary to refinish something completely. There are many businesses who offer touchup service, but do not do refinishing. Since we are skilled at both Refinishing and Touchup, you can be assured that we will provide an objective assessment regarding which approach is best for your items.
